Sandy Disaster Recovery Worker Killed by Car in Brick

BRICK–At approximately 8:20 a.m. on Friday, Paul Friedauer, 69, of Long Branch was struck by a car while attempting to stop traffic on Princeton Avenue, according to Brick Township Police.

Friedauer, was working as a subcontractor for Ash Brit, the disaster recovery contractor managing the debris removal process in Ocean County,  according to Toms River Township Officials,  He was struck by a 2004 Nissan Pathfinder driven by Karl Scheufler, 42, of Brick.

Brick Police say Friedauer was thrown approximately 125 feet upon impact.   He was airlifted to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune, where he died from his injuries.

OHSA has initiated an investigation, according to Brick Township Police.
