High School Wrestling: Brick Memorial Defeats Jackson Memorial in Dramatic Style
JACKSON–In the final minute of the second round of the final match of the night, Nick Costa of Brick Memorial (#7) pinned James Langschultz of Jackson Memorial (#13) to cap a dramatic come from behind win against the Jaguars.
For most of the night, Jackson held the lead, but the distance between the two wasn’t great enough to weather two consecutive pins to end the night. Jackson was leading 26-15 going into the final two matches, before Brick Memorial picked up a quick 12 points and the 27-26 win.
The comeback started when Tyler Richardson took an 8-0 lead into the second and finished off Austin Clark for 6 points before Costa’s pin of Langschultz.
The night started with 18-1 Matt Moore of Brick winning a 1-0 match against the Ken Bradley, who was recently named Star Ledger week one top performer.
Brian Hamman (18-2) made short work out of Alec Donovan (14-4), pinning Donovan at 1:25 into the first round. Brick Memorial is now 12-2 on the season while Jackson, coming off a 52-15 win over Toms River North now heads into the stretch with losses against Shore Conference rivals Southern Regional and Brick Memorial.
Brick can now put away their 1-2 showing at last week’s quad where they were defeated by Toms River South, 36-24. South was ranked #6 in the state this week by the Star Ledger, pushing Brick down a notch with the win.
Jackson was ranked #13 in the state and Southern Regional #12.
