Lakewood Authorities Respond to Another Fire at Tent City
LAKEWOOD–Police and fire personnel responded to the third fire in 30 days at the town’s growing homeless encampment. The incident occurred within the “Tent City” on Monday at around 4:40 pm. Firefighters arrived to a fully engulfed tent, according to The Lakewood Scoop.
TLS reports a woman who was inside the tent when the fire began denied medical attention. The Fire Marshall’s office is investigating.
In the past month, at the camp, there was a death, three fires and a double stabbing at the encampment, which has been battling the Ocean County Board of Freeholders for a better solution to the County’s growing homeless issue.
