High School Boys Basketball: Shore Conference Tournament Round Two Recap

The following scores were provided by All-Shore Media and represent Ocean County teams in the Shore Conference Tournment. For a complete round recap, visit www.allshoremedia.net.  Quarterfinals scheduled for Sunday, Feb 17 at Brookdale Community College.

(6) Jackson Memorial 41, (11) St. Rose 31<

 Junior center Eric Carter scored 15 points and grabbed 16 rebounds and the Jaguars (19-4) grinded out a win over the Purple Roses (18-5) to advance to the SCT quarterfinals for the second straight season. Senior guard Salam Simon added eight points, six rebounds and three assists for Jackson Memorial while junior Dan Borner led St. Rose with 10 points.

(5) Toms River North 47, (21) Ocean 36

Senior forward Solly Stansbury recorded his third triple-double of the season and the Mariners (21-2) held off the Spartans (14-9) to advance to the SCT quarterfinals for the first time since 1998. Stanbury scored a team-high 16 points to go with 20 rebounds and a career-high 13 blocks. Senior guard Damien Singleton added 12 points and nine assists and senior Ron Marinaccio chipped in eight points and six steals for Toms River North.

(1) Lakewood 60, (17) Middletown North 44

Senior Tyrice Beverette scored 16 points to go with six rebounds and six steals and the Piners (19-1) came alive in the third quarter to erase a five-point deficit and pull away with a win over the Lions (12-11). Lakewood trailed 26-21 with 3:48 left in the third quarter and outscored Middletown North 39-18 over the final 11:48 to earn its third straight trip to the SCT quarterfinals on Sunday, when the Piners will play No. 24 Matawan. Senior forward Jared Craddox added 15 points and 14 rebounds for Lakewood.

(4) Colts Neck 64, (13) Southern 45

Senior Brandon Federici scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Cougars (18-3) pulled away to beat the Rams (13-9) and advance to the SCT quarterfinals for the second straight season, where they will play No. 4 Toms River North. Senior Tim Vangelas added 17 points and sophomore Sean O’Reilly chipped in 11 points four assists and three steals in the win. Junior Mike Gesicki led Southern with 17 points.

(2) Point Beach 88, (15) Neptune 58

Senior guard P.J. Kineavy led four scorers in double figures with a game-high 24 points, hitting six 3-pointers, as the Garnet Gulls (20-2) routed the defending SCT champion Scarlet Fliers (10-10) to advance to face 10th-seeded Manalapan on Sunday in the quarterfinals at Brookdale.

Junior forward Noah Yates added 22 points on 10-for-12 shooting, senior center Riley Calzonetti had 18 points and 10 rebounds and junior point guard Matt Farrell had 11 points and 8 assists for Point Beach, which led 47-22 at halftime. Senior forward Keith Kirkwood had a team-high 19 points in the loss for Neptune.
