HS Boys Basketball: Lakewood Wins Shore Conference Tournament

WEST LONG BRANCH–The Lakewood Piners, on Saturday, defeated Point Pleasant Beach 39-33 in the 2012-13 Shore Conference Tournament Finals.

Point Pleasant led 7-6 at the end of the first quarter, but Lakewood went on to outscore the Garnet Gulls for the win.     Tyrice Beverette and Maurice Diawara led the Piners, each with 10 points, including a 3 point shot and 5 points from the foul line by Beverette.

Matt Farrell of Point Beach was the game high scorer with 12 points.

Lakewood Coach Randy Holmes played on Lakewood’s last SCT championship team in 1991. During the game, Holmes wore his 1991 t-shirt under his suit.

Lakewood is 22-2 on the season this year.  Lakewood is seeded #1 in the upcoming Central Jersey Group II state tournament, to being Monday night versus #16 seed Robbinsville.
