Staff Report

TOMS RIVER
On Saturday, Toms River firefighters from Silverton, Pleasant Plains, Toms River Co.’s 1 & 2 and East Dover Fire Company responded to a fire at a home on Ashler Way in the northern section of the township.

Upon arrival, Toms River police officer Mark Nater arrived at the scene scene and reported flames and smoke coming from the attached two car garage.

Toms River Police Chief  Michael Mastronardy credits a working smoke detector for alerting the residents of the home.

“A 33 year old resident reported that he was lying on a couch watching television when he heard a smoke detector beeping,” Mastronardy said.  ”The resident and another person in the home contacted 911 then exited the home. “

The fire which apparently started in the garage also damaged a 2011 Toyota pickup truck that was parked in the driveway.

Investigating are Detective Thomas Dimichele and the Toms River Fire Prevention Bureau.
