SEASIDE PARK – At approximately 2:50 pm, Seaside Park Police responded to a call from the Sawmill Cafe regarding a boardwalk fire. Kohr’s Ice Cream, located between the Sawmill and Funtown Pier, and attached construction trailers, caught fire.
The fire, originally believed to be contained, has reignited due to the southerly winds that are blowing burning embers north along the boardwalk. Businesses on the boardwalk are shutting down while multiple fire response units are on the scene.
Currently responding fire companies include: Seaside Park Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1, Seaside Heights Fire Co. Station 44, East Dover Fire Co. Station 4, Toms River Fire Co. No. 2, Point Pleasant Beach Fire Co. 2, Ocean County Fire Co. No. 1, Toms River Fire Co. No. 1, Brick Pioneer Hose Co. No. 1, the Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office, Berkeley-Pinewald Pioneer Fire Company, Bayville Fire Company, Manitou Park Fire Co., Cassville Fire Co., and Island Heights Fire Co. No. 1.
Responding first aid squads include Toms River EMS, Island Heights Volunteer First Aid Squad, Holiday City-Berkeley First Aid Squad, Manchester First Aid Squad, Tri-Boro First Aid Squad, Community Medical-Barnabas Health EMS and Lavallette First Aid Squad.
Over 100 firefighters are on the scene along with many emergency medical service member; there are no reported injuries at this time but some firefighters were being treated for smoke inhalation on the scene.
