TOMS RIVER-On February 8, 2014 at 1:36 am the Toms River Police Department responded to Yellowbank Road just West of Vaughn Avenue for a motor vehicle crash in which one person was seriously injured and the other was killed.
Conner Hanfin, age 18, Hemlock Hill Drive in Toms River was driving a 2006 Honda Civic West on Yellowbank Road. The vehicle went through a stop sign and crossed over Vaughn Avenue. It continued a short distance on Yellowbank Avenue until it went over the curb at the end of the cul-de-sac. The vehicle then entered a wooded area and struck a tree.
The driver, Conner Hanfin, was extricated by emergency rescue crews and was flown by medevac helicopter to Jersey Shore Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition.
The front seat passenger, Francis Duddy, age 19, from Holly Street in Toms River was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
Toms River Police Department Traffic Safety Officer David Bartoshek is conducting the investigation and is assisted by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Support Team and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department CIU Evidence Unit.
Rescue efforts were conducted by Toms River EMS, MON OC Paramedics, East Diver Fire Department, Silverton Fire Department, and Toms River Fire Company #2.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation. No charges have been filed as of yet.
